A Cliff Dwelling
There sandy seems the golden sky
And golden seems the sandy plain.
No habitation meets the eye
Unless in the horizon rim,
Some halfway up the limestone wall,
That spot of black is not a stain
Or shadow, but a cavern hole,
Where someone used to climb and crawl
To rest from his besetting fears.
I see the callus on his soul
The disappearing last of him
And of his race starvation slim,
Oh years ago - ten thousand years.
Robert Frost
Beautiful photograph. Great post C.M.

very nice...both in pic and verse...
ReplyDeleteI like the way lack of shadow has flattened the space making the arch seem as thought it is a ceiling.
ReplyDeleteI read his verse as ... wrest his besetting fears... nice combo. -J

Glad to meet!
How magnificent! Wow.
ReplyDeleteI've been reading a book about the planets with many pics from the Hubble telescope. Mama Earth is so incredibly gorgeous. Unbelievable!!
I loved your offering on Earth Day. It makes me pause and give thanks for Robert Frost, magnificent stone habitats, and my own, sweet life.
ReplyDeleteI love this photograph... it creates a third space in the mind's eye.
