I have watched this horrible event evolve and cannot believe in two months time that we haven't found a way to make what is happening in the gulf stop. As we drink our morning coffee or tea, a way of life and a sea is dying. Words will not change the situation. Action will. How can we as a country stop this from happening again? Food for thought. There is nothing natural about this disaster and we as a people should be standing up and demanding not only answers but solutions.
i agree...we express our displeasure all the way to the pump though...until we change that why shoud they listen..esp when our politicians apologize to BP...
I don't want to be cynical, but I'm having a harder time each day holding onto hope in any of our systems, including our participation. I have a feeling the mid-term election will be about people just wanting change, without really knowing how to bring it about.
Unfortunately, I share Ruth's cynicism. The politicians and the petroleum industry are entertwined, and nothing will ever change. It's HORRIBLE what's going on in the Gulf. All I'm doing right now is boycotting BP (I've boycotted Exxon ever since the Valdez disaster). I also hope to buy a car that uses less gasoline...
Ugh! My comment just got eaten! Let me try once again: I share Ruth's cynicism. The petroleum industry and the politicians are married to each other, and nothing will ever change. For now, all I can do is boycott BP, juast as I've boycotted Exxon all these years.
It is a horrible disaster and many are standing around looking and pointing fingers, but few seem to know the answers. We are trying to fix it the same way we did a similar spill in Mexico in 1979. Have we learned nothing in 30 years? They all make me sick. Execs and politicians alike.
I agree with you it is up to us to demand change. I did two poems about this that you may like. As Gandhi said - Be the change that you want to see in the world.
Intriguing indeed. Unfortunately man is selfish. He too often thinks of himself and less of his surroundings. His egotistic behavior is clearly reflected in the BP Oil spill. God knows when things would change for the better! dharbarkha.blogspot.com/

I can't even look at that man.

I have been a way for some time and now to return to our country in such a state...with this tragedy...my heart aches...
