Magpie Tales-Sweet Jersey Waltz

Seedlings reach up
to the sky
down into the soil
all the while
the bees buzz
the peepers peep
the sun shines
the crickets chirp
rain showers
flirt and flood
until the sun's heat
warms
glorious globes
green and yellow
finally red
calling out for
picking
ripe with sun
till the crisp air
of autumn
ends the music.

  2. Great piece and the ending hit home because with the riping of tomatoes comes knowing that the end of summer is right around the corner and the opening of autumn...bkm

  5. '..the crisp air
    of autumn
    ends the music.' Oh yes!
The signs of summer nicely traced through tomato's 'glorious globes'.

  6. That's one swing Jersey tomato patch waltz!

By the way, I was tickled to see your mention of GarcĂa Marquez's One Hundred Years of Solitude in your comment today. Some of the stories about my grandmother's farm that I want to put in the rest of the series seem plucked from that novel and I make explicit references to it in the draft of the coming posts.

  20. loved 'flirt and flood,' and the ending was great, 'the crisp air
    of autumn
ends the music.' liked the form too, how it was a straight continuous flow, narrow. fit with the idea of the seedlings. great job!
