Monday Morning Wake Up Call-Rejoice
Sing it, Denise! The sound of joy --what singing is all about--I wonder if Amy Winehouse knew how much joy her voice gave to so many--here's hoping that you find some joy this week.

Monday Morning Wake Up Call-Sublime
Mr. Jackson has a habit of waking singing a song that somehow comes to him in his dreams--A marvelous gift and way to begin the day. Since I can only sing along and very rarely in key, I think this composition is my answer to beginning the day singing...enjoy and have a wonderful week!

Monday Morning WakeUp Call--Altitude with Attitude
Tales from the Trails (TFTT)
Something about the climate and the geography in New Mexico makes my heart sing. Seriously, I have more energy and I can't get enough of the clean fresh air and sunshine. Being from the east coast, I haven't had too many bad experiences when it comes to the altitude (7,000 ft). Except if you count not being able to sleep, like at all--wide awake pacing all night ....happened this trip and it wasn't until I really thought about it and of course, 'googled', found out that what I was experiencing was altitude sickness.
Seems one has to drink 1 ounce of water for each pound one weighs each day to acclimate. Without getting into the details, let's just say for me, that is a whole lot of water--not coffee, tea or wine, but water. This trip we were blessed with great weather that was cool and sunny. So while we drank water and in case you wondering, no tequila and minimal wine, it wasn't as much as we should have given the exertion of hiking every other day or would have given the typical warmer temperatures.
Here's a lesson from the trail at altitude, drink and drink and drink water--not coffee, tea, tequila or wine and you'll be fine.
Now what about these two kids? This was an 8th grade graduation project---how cool are they?
No matter your altitude, remember it's about the attitude. Make it a great week!

Monday Monday Wake Up Call-The Big Bad Wolf?
Mr. Jackson came across this find on one of our hikes in Bandelier. He saw a white reflection and thinking that it was a plastic bag, he ventured off the trail to pick it up. When I finally caught up (more on that later), he could hardly contain his excitement!! Isn't this cool?, he said. Through gasps, I agreed and promptly began to take a few shots to memorialize the moment, reminding him that we needed to leave his new friend where he found him. Being an excellent hiker, he returned Wolfy back to the wilderness.
We stopped back at the ranger's station to advise them of our find. Amazingly, we were advised that there no wolves in Bandelier and that Wolfy was more likely Wiley, a coyote. Go figure. That was one big coyote! Happy trails and may your week be a great adventure!

Monday Morning Wake Up Call-King Tut
Mr. Jackson and I visited the King Tut exhibit in Times Square and had almost as much fun as Steve Martin did doing this bit. An extensive review of King Tut's family and antiquities, the exhibit made me want to learn more. If you can, check it out. Until then, dance along with Steve and have a great week!

Monday Morning Wakeup Call-A Perfect Day
Here's my wish for you --no alarm clock, a big stack of blueberry pancakes with or without bacon and lots of coffee or tea to start. Hopefully you are off today and will be outside playing with family and friends --at the beach, in the mountains, in a park throwing a frisbee or just sitting in your backyard--listen to the laughter, the waves, the wind and the leaves--plant your feet on the ground and take stock of the beauty that is summer. Enjoy!

Monday Morning Wake Up Call--State of Mind
Doesn't matter where your 'state' of mind is--look as these faces as they sing --that's our future and here's hoping there is a teacher where you live that engages and educates like this teacher... get up, make it happen and pay it forward....;=) Have a great week!

Monday Morning Wake Up Call--It's a New Day
This is a video that was submitted in a contest by a 20-year old. The contest was titled "u @ 50" by AARP. This video won second place. When they showed it, everyone in the room was awe-struck and broke into spontaneous applause. So simple and yet so brilliant.
A dear friend of mine sent this to me this weekend. It is from 2007, so I apologize if you have seen it, but I felt it was relevant given all of the discourse regarding the future of our country. Here's the thing, if one 20 year old thought this, then I am willing to wager there's a few more, along with some thirty, forty, fifty and yes, even some 60 or more year olds thinking, concerned, but thinking about the direction we are headed and the possibilities for the future. When I began this blog a year or so ago, I did it with the resolve it was outside of my work and that will not change. However, when I received this video, I listened to the 20 year old voice and realized some things about how I approach my work and most importantly, the people I connect with in my work day now. Everyone has been impacted by the economic crisis. What I realized is this recession in some way has been a blessing --I have more time to connect and listen. We all are just trying to find a way to pay our bills, put a roof over our heads, feed our families, put our kids through college and protect our retirement --A reminder ...the future awaits and it is bright if we choose to see it as so and work together, regardless of generation...each generation can add to the vision so long as there is a dialogue... now get busy and make it happen!

Monday Morning Wake Up Call- Remember..Yes We Can!
Now more than ever we need to put aside our differences and work together---cross the room and grab a hand--yes, we can...
