Theme Thursday-Festival
Indian Market in Santa Fe New Mexico is an annual art market beginning on the third Thursday which runs through the third weekend of August. One of the largest American Indian markets in the country , it is recognized as the largest juried show of American Indian Art in the world. I have been fortunate to witness the event for ten years. There is music, art ,food and an atmosphere that is nothing like I have experienced any where.
Mr. Jackson was introduced to the market four years ago and every June he starts talking about what we are going to do and who we are going to see.
Santa Fe is a special place. Indian Market brings many people to this little town of adobe buildings. For some, the experience keeps them coming back.
Why?
The diversity-native american,latino,hispanic and anglo cultures co-exist.
Art-a community which is recognized as one of the art capitals of the world.
Community-A sophistication among adobe buildings which resonates in its food, culture and politics.
It's a worldly place without traffic and the noise. A place of refuge and discovery. The highest state capital in the country at 7,000 feet, Santa Fe is a glorious combination of the artistic and the historic cultures that have lived in this country for centuries. My secret is now yours--
states of mine-

heart,
home,
Life,
love,

Wow - that sounds fun and invigorating!
how very cool. love the variety and colors of artwork from various cultures. there is so much we can learn from each other....
Sounds like a great festival!
Santa Fe is an art Mecca. I really need to visit...some how I've missed it in all of my travels
Santa Fe has always been a dream destination of mine and yet I'm always a bit wary about going there because of the altitude. The few times I've been to Mexico City (3,000 feet from sea level) I faint - yes, faint - the first day because I'm unaccustomed to the thin air (and I guess the smog doesn't help either!). I really s.u.c.k. at this and I get so annoyed. Maybe I'll go and bring an oxygen tank LOL!!!
Another new one to me! Thanks.
tut-tut--thanks for stopping by- c
I've been to Mexico, but not New Mexico! The culture is really very interesting. This festival looks really fun!
Oooh, I want to go to this one!!!
Would love to go to this someday( maybe on my next trip out to New Mexico. I was too early this year-drat! )But did do the Curry County fair many times when I lived in Clovis :)
Too, Santa Fe isn't so small anymore, wot? But still retains its charm, yes?
clever p--it is a great time and a beautiful place--thanks for stopping by-c

lots of fun and people to meet--check it out! c
ve--do it! you will not be disappointed-c
rebecca--I am lucky despite living on the east coast my entire life altitude below 8K doesn't bother me. However, I have been to Colorado and felt very bad as I drove up and down through the passes. So I understand. I believe there is a medication that you can take which acclimates you to altitude--my skier friends have been know to partake so they don't miss a day on the slopes. At the very least, you need to stay in albuquerque for a couple of days then drive up to Santa Fe all the while drinking water. The climate is miraculous--perhaps you should just take a month off and travel about the southwest;-) best-c
betsy--the kids would love New Mexico--lots to do and see--best c
megan--what are you waiting for? go! santa fe is a perfect blend of the artistic and historic as well as being beautiful---best--c
subtorp77--googled clovis and it looks like a lovely spot--been as far as Santa Rosa--haven't ventured much south of abq--santa fe retains its charm and has resisted the sprawl that comes with development--let's hope it stays that way..hope you get a chance to go north santa fe and beyond--beautiful country-c
C.M.Jackson, glad it has and I took a look at the link you mentioned to Willow. Very interesting history about Zozobra. Would have to maybe take it as a day trip, next time I'm out there :)
